*All visitors and volunteers to the BNLC Campus MUST have completed the Volunteer Badge/Background Check Process through the District. See the information below about the District volunteer badge application process. Visitors without the proper volunteer badge will not be allowed past the school office.
A District Volunteer Badge/Background check is REQUIRED* for:
– Visiting a student on the playground.
– Volunteering for a teacher/staff member (even if not working directly with students).
– Reading individually or in small groups with students.
– Working with students individually or in small groups.
– Volunteering for a PTO event during the school day (including, but not limited to)
- Field Day
- Community Day
- STEM Day
- Book Fair
- Take-A-Taste Thursday
- Publishing Shop
- Mumkin Sale Pick-Up
- Career Days
- Fifth Grade Party/Celebration
– To chaperone a field trip (even local trips to the Library or the Pond).
– Completing PTO-related work in the building.
– Volunteering in the Innovation Discovery Center.
– To be a room parent and lead PTO Winter and End of Year Parties (parents are not permitted to visit students during class parties. Only parents who have volunteered through the PTO and are actively involved in the planning and leading of the party are allowed to be present during the party-Parents ARE NOT permitted to pop in on the day of the party to go down and be with their student).
*While this is not an exhaustive list, we have done our best to capture when a volunteer badge/background check is needed.
A District Volunteer Badge/Background check-in NOT REQUIRED for:
– Attending PTO events outside of school hours (i.e. Carnival, Fall Tailgate, Winter Shop, Spirit Nights, Monster Mash, PTO Meetings, attending a musical/theatrical performance during the school day (Choir, Veterans Day, Tharp Choir, Music Performances, Momentum).
– Attending Community Events as a guest of a student, but not volunteering (i.e. Community Day, Fifth Grade Clap Out, Classroom Poetry Slams, Classrooms Design Project Displays).
– If a parent has made prior arrangements with a teacher to be a special guest (whole class) and is with the teacher at all times.
– If a parent comes to eat lunch with their child. All lunch visitors must be listed as a guardian or emergency contact for the student they are visiting. If a visitor is not listed as a guardian, prior arrangements must be made by the guardian with the school office.
-touring the school/visiting classrooms with the school with the principal. During the visit, the guest must be with the principal/designee at all times.
***If you plan to visit either of our Campus buildings at any time throughout the school year, we encourage all visitors and volunteers to complete the Volunteer Badge/Background Check process. It does take several weeks to get an official badge, so parents are encouraged to complete the process early. The badge is valid for 3 years from the date it is issued.
***When in doubt, we encourage you to call the school office and we can inform you if a Volunteer badge is required for a specific event.
***Lastly, these guidelines are in place to keep our BNLC students and staff safe. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding of these guidelines.

-The background check costs $16.95
-You will receive notification via email regarding the status of your badge approval.
-Allow at least 7 – 10 business days to receive your badge in the mail.
-The volunteer badges are good for 3 years.
-If your volunteer badge has expired, you must apply as NEW.
-The district can NOT expedite a request.
