When you think about great athletes, it is not always about what they do on the field: they do not have to be the strongest or fastest, score the winning point, or make a winning save. Great athletes show up and change the atmosphere of the locker room, field, or sidelines. It doesn’t matter what they have experienced in life because their goal is to make others around them better. Our soccer program has several great athletes; however, junior Goalkeeper and Midfielder, Hannah Baumann, has made the biggest impact this month. Hannah makes our program better because of her willingness to lift others up when they are down. Even when she was out with an injury, she did not want to let the team down. Great athletes overcome injuries with the mindset of, “How can I still make an impact on the team?” Hannah’s positive mindset and leadership are qualities people need to strive for. Congratulations on being named September Athlete of the Month.
Collins Applegate has led the boys cross country team as the top finisher at each meet this season. He has had impressive runs at Springfield Northwestern and most recently at The Galion XC Festival. His best finish has been 5th place overall with is best time being 17:20. Collins helped his team win at the Warrior Fall Classic. As a senior, he models what a strong teammate and dedicated runner should be. Collins helps run daily workouts and also a role model in the classroom. Congratulations Collins on being named Hilliard Darby’s September Athlete of the Month.
