The Bands

Membership in Wind Symphony is elective and selective. The ensemble will develop advanced musicianship and skills through daily rehearsals and participating in after school concerts and OMEA Adjudicated Events. Music will be selected from many different styles and music periods. Membership in Wind Ensemble includes membership in Marching Band* unless a student is a member of a fall school athletic team or by special permission of the head band director.

Marching Band

Prerequisites: Permission of Instructor is Required / Audition Required

Membership in Jazz Ensemble is elective and selective. The performance group is open  to all high school band members who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, drum set, guitar, or string bass. Students must display advanced playing technique and an interest in Jazz music. The ensemble will perform traditional and modern Jazz in various concerts, community events, and/or adjudicated events throughout the school year and summer. Students who play non-band instruments (piano, bass, guitar) should see the director at the time of registration to arrange an audition. This class rehearses Zero (0) period only.

Color Guard is comprised of those individuals who provide visual elements for the marching band through the use of flags, rifles, etc. The group rehearses after school for the first ten weeks of the school year. Performances are at Friday night football games and Saturday contests.

  • Note: Fee: $100 (pay-to-participate fee)
  • Participation in Color Guard can be used to waive the PE requirement. Talk to the band directors and/or your guidance counselor for more details.

Our Staff

Andy Rice
Director of Bands
Andy Rice has been the Director of Bands at Hilliard Bradley High School since 2014. Andy is also an active trombonist around central Ohio. Prior to coming to Hilliard, Mr. Rice served as Assistant Director of Bands at Dublin Coffman High School from 2005 through 2014. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University and a Masters Degree in Music Education – Instrumental Emphasis from Capital University.
Courtney Ruppert (Larkin)
Asst. Director of Bands
Courtney Ruppert (Larkin) is the Assistant Director of Bands at Bradley High School. Prior to coming to Hilliard, Mrs. Ruppert served as the Director of Bands at Wilson Middle School and Assistant Director for the Newark High School Marching Band. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University.

Help with Fundraising

Let’s begin with how the process works!

  • All fundraising efforts are coordinated at the HMB level – for all corporate, chapter, group, and functional levels.
  • Ideas are submitted through the chapter organizations that review the ideas and make sure they meet the minimum requirements for consideration.
  • The Chapter Co-Chair or Vice President submits the idea to the Executive Review Committee.
  • A decision is made. If approved, a Program Guide is produced for this fundraising effort which outlines the details and governance involved.
  • The Fundraising Idea is implemented at the appropriate level.

Help with Concessions

At Hilliard Bradley we share in concessions responsibilities with the Athletic Boosters. At football games we will be working side-by-side. For the other sporting events we will be sharing the duties for both indoor and outdoor for the entire year. Concessions is the primary way we make money for the Music Booster program. We are hoping by spreading out the events more people will be interested in participating. To make things simpler, we have started a concessions sign up program. It’s simple. You register once. Then sign up for what events you wish to work. The program has a complete list of the fall events, the date, and the sport.
