The Choirs

Senior Choir is Hilliard Davidson’s 60-member auditioned SATB ensemble. Members are required to demonstrate advanced vocal skill, reading ability, and prior participation in a fine arts ensemble. Senior Choir performs at five curricular concerts throughout the school year in addition to several off-campus performances. The ensemble competes annually in Class AA at OMEA Large Group Event, the most difficult adjudicated class. Senior Choir has traveled both domestically and abroad including to destinations such as New Orleans, Chicago, New York City, and Italy.
The ensemble works with several clinicians throughout the year including with faculty from Otterbein University, Capital University, Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, The Ohio State University and more. Additionally, they have shared concerts with other high school ensembles from around the greater-Columbus area including Worthington Kilbourne, Dublin Jerome, Upper Arlington, Grove City, and Licking Heights High Schools.

Symphonic Choir is the intermediate, auditioned treble ensemble for Hilliard Davidson. Members are selected through an audition process where students are expected to demonstrate advanced vocal skill and reading ability. Symphonic Choir presents four curricular concerts each year and participates in OMEA Large Group Competition. For the past several years, Symphonic Choir has earned superior ratings at OMEA and received high marks and praises by judges for their artistry.

Soprano/Alto Concert Choir is an unauditioned treble ensemble where students develop their vocal ability and music literacy skills. There is a strong focus on preparing students for participation in the auditioned ensembles at Davidson by way of enhancing their musicianship skills. The Concert Choirs participate in the four curricular concerts throughout the year.
Tenor/Bass Concert Choir is an unauditioned ensemble for tenor and bass voices where students develop their vocal ability and music literacy skills. There is a strong focus on preparing students for participation in the auditioned ensembles at Davidson by way of enhancing their musicianship skills. The Concert Choirs participate in the four curricular concerts throughout the year.
Blue Kids on the Block is Hilliard Davidson’s premiere competitive a cappella ensemble. Consisting of 16-18 members on any given year, the group was founded in 2019 and performs several concerts around the greater-Columbus area each year. Past performances have included singing at the Ohio Statehouse, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and the Franklin Park Conservatory. In addition to their busy performance schedule, the ensemble also competes in the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA) competition. In 2024, Blue Kids on the Block won first place at both Quarterfinal and Semifinal competitions, earning the title of Midwest Champions and securing a performance spot at the National Competition hosted in NYC.

General Information
Mr. Dufford directs the choirs at Hilliard Davidson High School. A native of Pickerington, Ohio, Mr. Dufford joined the Davidson Choral Department in the Fall of 2021. Mr. Dufford has taught K-12 music in the Columbus, Cincinnati, and Toledo areas prior to his appointment at Davidson. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Otterbein University and his Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Bowling Green State University.
