General Information
Concert Attire
This year, I am asking each choir member to purchase a printed choir T-shirt. You can decide the best size for your students thinking of possible growth as they will wear this shirt all year. You must order your choir shirts on or before September 18th. Shirts will be delivered shortly before the first concert. Shirt Link:
Black pants are suggested for both boys and girls, but knee-length or longer skirts are permitted. Black leggings are not considered pants. They may be worn under skirts, but not alone instead of black pants. Shirts are to be worn tucked in and a black belt is preferred. Black dress shoes and black socks will round out the concert attire. Hair, for those with long length, is to be worn pulled back away from the face for concerts. Please have your concert outfit ready by October 1st.
Choir Expectations
Classroom Expectations: Be sure to know the classroom expectations and take responsibility for your actions!
- Participate: Actively sing and take part in classroom activities each day.
- Be Respectful: Be respectful of others and their property. This includes not talking loudly or out of turn, not touching other students’ belongings, and being careful with school equipment. No gum, food, pop, etc. is permitted in the music room.
- Be Prepared: Have your iPad with you each day, charged and ready. Read the board daily to see what additional materials you will need.
- Use your best singing voice and posture!
- Be helpful to others: This includes not complaining about any piece of music we are working on.
Grading Policy
Grades Performances As an important part of the choir experience, we do have a few out-of-school concerts. Performances are mandatory and worth 100 points of the grade. Students must attend both performances. Each concert will have a mandatory rehearsal worth 50 points. Participation Students will receive a monthly participation grade of 40 points and will earn the points according to the class expectations. Musicianship (singing quizzes and music theory worksheets) Students will be required to periodically perform singing quizzes and do written worksheets to evaluate musical progress and understanding of knowledge. Singing quizzes will be announced for students to practice and prepare. Homework There may occasionally be out-of-school written assignments or research that will be assigned. Station homework policies apply.
