The Ensembles

The Cadet Orchestra is open to students who have already started playing stringed instruments and successfully completed a year of beginning string instruction. This orchestra performs three to four times throughout the year. This group will focus on developing proper musicianship skills through daily rehearsals and participation.  At-home practice time outside of class is required.

Prerequisite: audition, previous orchestral experience, teacher recommendation

The Concert Orchestra 1 is an advanced-level middle school orchestra. The Concert Orchestra is comprised of string players who can demonstrate a moderate level of proficiency on violin, viola, cello, bass, piano or harp.  Students in this orchestra will learn and refine technical concepts as well as build on previously learned skills. Students are expected to come to rehearsal with their individual parts learned and well-prepared.  The members of the Concert Orchestra 1 should be prepared for a performance schedule that includes three to four performances per year and may also include adjudication. Students in this group are expected to participate in all performances associated with the group.  Daily individual practice time outside of class is required.

The Concert Orchestra 2 is an intermediate-advanced middle school orchestra. Students will build on techniques from their 6th and 7th grade instruction as well as learn more advanced musical concepts. This orchestra performs three to four times throughout the year. Home practice time outside of class is required.

Prerequisite: audition, previous orchestral experience, teacher recommendation

Virginia Faulkner
Director
Ginny Faulkner is the Orchestra Director at Weaver Middle School and Assistant Director at Davidson High School. She also assists with the Tharp 6th grade Orchestra. Previously, she taught for three years in the Delaware City Schools. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Ohio State University. Mrs. Faulkner and her husband, Jim reside in Hilliard with their two children Josh and Emma and their lovable dogs, Archie and Jean.
