Good Afternoon Jaguar Parents,
Our first week back from break went well. Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior scheduling meetings will begin January 22nd. Please start to talk to your students about their class choices to ensure they are making the best decisions about the classes they are scheduling. As we begin to build the building schedule for the 2024-2025 school year, it is essential that our students make informed scheduling decisions.
Grades will be available on January 9th. Please review your child’s grades and discuss strengths and areas of improvement to set goals for the third quarter. Take time to celebrate your child’s successes and continue to work with his/her respective teachers to achieve any improvement that needs to take place. This is also an excellent time to re-emphasize your expectations for your child for the remainder of the year.
Have a great weekend, and Go Jags!!!

HILLIARD BRADLEY THEATER PRESENTS ARSENIC AND OLD LACE!
Friday January 26 – Saturday January 27. Info and tickets here.
Join the charmingly deranged Brewster sisters, Abby and Martha, as they dispense hospitality (and a touch of cyanide) in equal measure. Their Brooklyn home becomes a hilarious haven for bumbling criminals, bewildered nephews, and a whole lot of mayhem.
Here’s what you can expect:
Classic screwball comedy: Prepare for nonstop laughs, witty dialogue, and slapstick galore. You’ll be howling at the absurdity of it all!
- A touch of the macabre: Just a pinch of poison, a dash of dead bodies, and a sprinkle of graveyard humor. This dark comedy will keep you on the edge of your seat.
- A timeless story: First written in 1941, Arsenic and Old Lace is still as relevant and entertaining today as ever. It’s a reminder that family can be the most dangerous thing of all.

Kindergarten Registration – Begins Monday
Hilliard City School District will begin Kindergarten Registration on Monday, January 8, 2024, for the 2024-25 school year. If your child will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2024, they are eligible to start kindergarten during the 2024-25 school year.
Parents can access the registration website (on or after January 8, 2024) to complete online registration. The earlier you complete the registration process, the more likely your student will be able to attend the school assigned to your address. You will also have more flexibility in scheduling the kindergarten screening. Once you begin the registration process, you have 30 days to complete it, or your application will be deleted. Once finished, the Welcome Center will schedule your screening appointment for August.
Please don’t delay. The District uses registration numbers in the spring to determine how many kindergarten classes will be offered at each building. Contact the Hilliard City Schools Welcome Center at (614) 921-7096 with questions. For more information, please visit the Hilliard City Schools’ website atwww.hilliardschools.org.
Parent Accounts for Canvas and How to use them
Canvas is the online Learning Management System we use in Hilliard Schools. Your child’s teacher(s) may use Canvas in a variety of ways. Some examples are: to provide access to important resources, to create online discussions where students can post and reply, and to receive, evaluate, and/or provide feedback on work your child submits digitally. As a parent or guardian, you are already enrolled as an Observer in all of your students’ active Canvas courses. To login to Canvas as an observer, go to hilliard.instructure.com or click on the link to Canvas from our HCSD Parent page. Your parent observer username and password match your username and password for Home Access Center. If you want to learn more about how to navigate Canvas as a parent, find the course “How to Use Canvas for Parents” on the homepage after you login.

Visitor Management System Roll Out in All Buildings
At the beginning of this year, Hilliard Schools began implementing a new visitor check-in system at several of our schools. This has been both easy to use and is enhancing the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. We are excited to take the next step and roll this system out to all schools in the district starting Monday, January 8, 2024.
School Safe ID will require all visitors to present a valid state-issued ID. The system will compare the visitor’s name and date of birth to the national database of registered offenders. It is managed through a kiosk in the front office. Visitors must scan their valid state-issued ID, and once approved, the visitor will be issued a badge that identifies his or her name and purpose for visiting the school. The system will only record the visitor’s name and date of birth. No additional date from the license will be entered into the system. Visitors will not need to use the system should they simply need to drop off something in the main office. The process should take less than ten seconds, and we know you will agree that the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is of utmost importance.
