Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

It was another good week here at Bradley High School. Our students are getting settled in and doing a great job in their classes.

Next Wednesday, September 11th,  we will host our annual Club Fair in the gymnasium. Please talk to your students about the importance of joining a club or activity at Bradley.

Next Saturday, 9/14, at 3:35 p.m., the Hilliard Bradley Marching Band will compete at the Hilliard Invitational in the stadium. Please come out and support our students as they put on an excellent show for our community.

Finally, homecoming will be held on Saturday, September 28th, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the football field. Homecoming is a Hilliard student-only event. We will share more information in the upcoming weeks about the parade, spirit week, and other activities.

Have a great weekend, and Go Jags!!!

Shout out to our Jag Times broadcast team who kicked off Start Strong September with our building-wide “Hats Off to Perfect Attendance” challenge. We encourage your students to join us and tune in to the daily news for multiple opportunities to win a Bradley hat and other prizes!

Did you know?

It’s a common misconception that missing 1 to 2 days a month is not a big deal. Actually, absences can add up quickly. A student missing 1 to 2 days a month can end up with as many as 18 days of school missed over the course of the year. That’s the equivalent of over 3 weeks of school missed!

Bradley Attendance Pro Tip:

As much as possible, schedule appointments outside of the school day.

Grades: Canvas vs. Home Access

Canvas is our learning management system where work can be assigned, submitted, and graded. Observers (guardians) can choose to receive notifications of work completed in Canvas: click here to learn how. Teachers may choose to send score updates from Canvas into Home Access Center.

Home Access Center is the district’s official grade portal. Teachers may also choose to enter some scores directly into Home Access Center; for this reason, Home Access shows students’ most accurate grades. Guardians can choose to receive notifications from Home Access. This video shows how.

Important Technology Reminders

Summer HomeAccess updates and the Technology Protection Plan (TPP) – If you haven’t done so already this summer, please check HomeAccess to confirm your contact information is up to date.  It is especially important we have an accurate MAIN/PRIMARY phone number listed as well as an e-mail address for you.  We synchronize this information across many of our systems and use this contact information to keep you up-to-date as well as important notification messages, like snow days!  You can also view and sign off on the student handbook and purchase the Technology Protection Plan for any student in grades K-12.  August 19 will be here sooner than you think, so why not do this all now, and not have to worry about it before the first day of school?  Here are some links to help:

Canvas Accounts for Parents & How to use Canvas as a Parent or Guardian – Canvas is the online Learning Management System we use in Hilliard Schools. Your child’s teacher(s) may use Canvas in a variety of ways.  Some examples are: to provide access to important resources, to create online discussions where students can post and reply, and to receive, evaluate, and/or provide feedback on work your child submits digitally.  As a parent, you are already enrolled as a Parent Observer in all of your child’s active Canvas courses.  To login to Canvas as a parent observer go to hilliard.instructure.com or click on the link to Canvas from our HCSD Parent page. Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

The first full week of school is complete, and our students did an outstanding job. We are excited to continue the positive momentum that has gotten this school year off to a great start.

Congratulations to our after-school programs, which are officially in full swing. It has been great to see our students back in the building participating in clubs, theater, band, and athletics again. On September 11th, we will host our annual club fair in the gymnasium. Please talk to your students about the importance of joining a club or activity at Bradley.

As students grow older and more independent, families play a key role in ensuring they access learning opportunities and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and on the job. Students should miss at most nine school days each year to stay engaged, successful, and on track to graduation.

The building will be closed on Monday in celebration of Labor Day. Enjoy the holiday; we will see your children early on Tuesday morning.

Have a great weekend and Go Jags!!!

Did you know?  September is Attendance Awareness Month!

And it’s no surprise because absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school.

Encourage your student to join us here at 2800 Walker Rd. for Start Strong September to earn entries for prizes throughout the month of September!

Important Tolles Transportation Information

On days Hilliard City Schools are in session, students will either ride their scheduled bus or drive to Bradley High School.  Once there, students will catch the shuttle bus out to Tolles in the mornings.  After school, the shuttle bus will return those students back to Bradley and then transport the remaining students WHO HAVE REGISTERED FOR TRANSPORTATION (see directions below) home.  Important: you must register your student to request transportation home.

On days that Hilliard City Schools are not in session, students WHO HAVE REGISTERED FOR TRANSPORTATION (see directions below) will be picked up/dropped off at a stop near their home unless they reside in a non-transportation area.  Students who reside in the non-transportation area and/or drive, may ride the shuttle bus to and from Tolles out of their assigned high school.

It is important to note that we DO NOT offer transportation services, other than the shuttle to or from Tolles, in the middle of the day regardless if Hilliard City Schools is or is not in session.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR TRANSPORTATION

Students who reside in the transportation area and will need services to and/or from school on non-Hilliard school days or in the afternoons on Hilliard school days, MUST REGISTER FOR TRANSPORTATION.

To request transportation service, families need to complete the online request through the Hilliard City Schools’ bus request link.  You may access this link directly at https://www.hilliardschools.org/bus-request/.

Issue 39 Hilliard School Combined Levy/Bond for November 5  Election

The Hilliard City Schools Board of Education has taken steps to place a crucial school levy on the ballot for the November 5 general election. In a unanimous decision, the Board passed the necessary resolutions to address the district’s growing needs and future plans.

This is the first school levy request in eight years.  Here are the key details of Issue 39:

  • Operating Levy: A 6.9 mill operating levy, costing homeowners $242 per $100,000 in home valuation per year.
  • Bond Issue: Authorizes the District to issue $142 million in bonds to construct, renovate, and improve facilities. This levy will appear on the ballot at 1.84 mills, but due to maturing debt, no additional millage will be collected.  In a resolution passed by the Board of Education on June 10, 2024, it was stated that in 2024, the district collected about 4.00 mills in property taxes to pay off existing bonds, as calculated by the Franklin County Auditor.  If voters approve the new bond issue on November 5, 2024, the district plans to keep the property tax rate for paying off bonds at no more than 4.00 mills for 2025 and the following years.

Click here for the Issue 39 web page to read more about the purpose, impact, and FAQs. The district will also be hosting several Issue 39 Community Conversations. The dates/times/locations are listed below under Important Dates.

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

Thank you all for your help this week. During our first three days of school, your students made the start of the 2024-2025 school year memorable.

This week, we held class meetings with our students to discuss expectations and class goals to create an overall plan for a successful school year and future.

Congratulations to all of our after-school programs that are officially in full swing. It has been great to see our students back in the building participating in clubs, theater, band, and athletics again.

We will hold our first spirit week next week. Monday: PJs, Tuesday: Twin Day, Wednesday: Hawaiian Shirts, Thursday: Camo, Friday: Blackout.

This year, we will continue to focus on improving absenteeism. We will send out information throughout the year to help keep our students in school. You can now help by setting routines to prepare your student for success. Talk about the exciting things to come, and contact your student’s teachers or counselors if you have any concerns.

We look forward to seeing you throughout the school year. Have a great weekend, and Go Jags!

Attendance Talk

Did you know that of our students who had 4+ absences by the end of October of last year, 96% of them went on to miss 10+ days of school?  While of those students who had less than 4 absences by the end of October, only 29% of them went on to miss 10+ days of school?  This is another reminder that early intervention matters!  Keeping students under 4 absences by the end of October sets good attendance patterns for the year!

We also saw that students with a 95% or better attendance rate scored 10% better on their state Language Arts assessment and 15% better on their state math assessment last year.  Showing up matters!

SEE YOU AT 2800 WALKER RD.

Technology Protection Plan (TPP)

The Technology Protection Plan (TPP) is highly recommended to all families of students in grades 2-12 as a way to help protect/repair their iPad in case of an accident either at school or at home.

For only $25 per school year, the device loaned to your student will be covered against all incidental damage or loss over $50. Accessories (charger and case) and damages valued at less than $50 are NOT covered and are the sole responsibility of the student. Coverage is 24 hours per day. NEGLECT/ABUSE IS NOT COVERED. The Technology Protection Plan will only cover two incidents per school year.

If paid, the TPP will release the parent/guardian from having to pay for loss or damage for the following reasons:

  • Damages resulting from normal use and accidents.
  • Loss or damages resulting from theft. An official copy of a police report is required.
  • Loss or damages resulting from a fire. An official fire report from the investigating authority is required.
  • Loss or damages resulting from a natural disaster.
  • Damages resulting from a power surge.
  • Damages resulting from vandalism by another individual. If found guilty, the vandal will be liable to pay for damages.

Without the TPP, your potential out-of-pocket expenses could be as high as $330.00 per incident!

We strongly encourage you to enroll your student’s device in our Technology Protection Plan for the 2024-25 school year. Payment is easy and can be paid online by logging into your MyPaymentsPlus account.

For just $25.00 the TPP will cover 2 incidents with no deductible. Coverage lasts for the entire school year and is renewable each subsequent school year. The Technology Protection Plan will follow Board Policy-JN.

To view the agreement, or for more information, please visit the One2One Initiative site at: http://www.hilliardschools.org/one2one/

After August 30th, the iPad will need to be inspected for damage before payment is accepted.

In order for athletes to participate, all of the following must take place.

**Physicals must be updated prior to participation.  Upload two forms from the physical — Physical Exam Form and Medical Eligibility Form — to the parent’s Final Forms account (paper physicals will not be accepted).

District Safety Training Day Update

Earlier this week, Hilliard Schools, the City of Hilliard Division of Police, and the Norwich Township Fire Department conducted an all-day safety training exercise at Bradley High School and Memorial Middle School. The exercise focused on the reunification of students and parents after a major incident, and many valuable lessons were learned.

All Hilliard School staff participated in this live-action training, which included extensive involvement from police and fire personnel to ensure authenticity. You can look at our local news organizations’ platforms if you want to read more.  Several attended and documented the day on their web pages.

We are deeply grateful for our strong partnership with the City of Hilliard Division of Police and the Norwich Township Fire Department. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and this training was an essential step in our ongoing efforts to enhance safety measures. Thank you for your continued support in making our community a safer place.

Congrats to our journalism students who earned all OCC Academic League 2024 Journalism Awards as Bradley’s representatives. Way to go, Austin Weitz, Cameron Gale, Lucy Cotter, and Max Lowe! These students were recognized this past Wednesday during the OCC Journalism Awards.

Senior parents, next Wednesday, March 20th, we will have a senior student meeting, 3rd period in the PAC, to discuss our plans for their final months here at Bradley High School. Please remember to submit a baby picture for your senior. The photos will be used for our end-of-year slideshow, that will be shown during the graduation ceremony. If your student has not submitted their photo through Canvas, please email their photo to Cindy_Cote@hboe.org.

On Tuesday, March 26th, we will administer the (ELA) English Language Arts—Part 1 & 2 End-of-Course Assessment. Test takers need to arrive at standard time. Similar to a traditional school day, breakfast will be available in the morning.  Non-testers will have a DELAYED start. Lunch starts at 11:40 a.m., and regular classes begin at noon.  March 26th Testing Schedule

Finally, at Hilliard City Schools, our core mission is to prepare students to be Ready for Tomorrow. We believe every student possesses the ability to achieve this mission. Regular attendance is the cornerstone of making this happen for every student, without exception.

Have a great weekend, and Go Jags!!!

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

I would like to begin by thanking everyone that had a chance to come out and support our band and choir performances this week. It was great to see so many of our families support the hard work of our talented students.

This week, over 400 of our Junior students took the SAT exam on Wednesday. We are excited to see the results and celebrate our students’ growth.

Good luck to Audrey Slivka, who will compete in the OHSAA State Wrestling Championships at The Schott this weekend. The girl’s bowling team will be competing in the OHSAA bowling state championship on Saturday for the first time in school history. Good luck: Kay Butcher, Cam Gale, Rachel Johnson, Madison Kaylor, Morgan Kaylor and Maddy Lawrence. The competition begins at 10:00 am at HP Lanes. Boys basketball will be competing in the district semifinals against Westerville Central at Ohio Dominican University beginning at 11:00 am. We look forward to seeing you at one or more of these events this weekend.

Finally, as we conclude the third quarter, please review your child’s grades and discuss strengths and areas for improvement to set goals for the fourth quarter. Take time to celebrate your child’s successes and continue to work with their respective teachers to achieve any improvement that needs to be made.

Have a great weekend, and Go Jags!!!
