ATHLETIC EVENTS

Good Afternoon Jaguar Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the first quarter of the school year. As always, we encourage you to keep the lines of communications open with all teachers if you have any questions about course grades and/or assignments.

Congratulations to the members of the Bradley Marching Band, who received an overall “Superior” rating at the Hilliard Marching Band Invitational on Saturday, which qualified them for OMEA State Marching Band Finals for the 13th consecutive season. They will perform in State Finals on October 28th here at HBHS. Their next competition performance is Saturday, September 23rd at the Bands of America Regional Championship at Fortress Obetz.

Bradley High School is proud to announce the following students have received recognition as Semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Competition include: Aayus Kumar, Maxton Wayt and Steven Wu. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of the U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.  The number of Semifinalists is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduation seniors.  Great job Jags!

Please know that we are here to partner with you to ensure a successful school year for you and your student(s). Frequent absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, or will miss out on these fun events we have coming up, such as the Club Fair and Homecoming.  We want to keep our kids in school and want to know if they are struggling   If you ever have any questions or need to contact us, feel free to call the school at 614-921-7400. We are eager to assist you.

Have a great weekend!  Go Jags!!!

Advanced Placement (AP)

Parents & guardians of students taking an Advanced Placement (AP) course – you will receive in the mail this week a letter with information on how to register your student for an AP exam(s). “The ASVAB is a standardized test that reveals areas of strength and ability in science, math, and language. Taking the test is one of the first steps before you explore your future.”

If your student was absent on picture day or would like a retake of their original day picture, HR Imaging will be at Bradley on Tuesday, October 10th.  If your student received a picture package and would like a retake, please have them bring their package on this day to give to the photographer.

PSAT

On October 24, each high school will operate on an adjusted schedule for the administration of the PSAT 10 to all sophomores and the administration of the PSAT/NMSQT to those juniors who have registered to take it. Both tests will be digital this school year.

The PSAT 10 measures readiness for college and prepares our sophomores to take the SAT during their junior year. It also connects students with scholarship opportunities and shares Advanced Placement (AP) potential.

For participating juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT also prepares students for the SAT, but is different in that it is a National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

There is additional information for families on the College Board website:www.collegeboard.org.

Technology Protection Plan (TPP)

The Technology Protection Plan (TPP) is still available for purchase. However, the iPad must now be inspected for damage before payment can be accepted. You may send payment, via check or cash, with your student and have them stop in the main office or the media center to begin this process.

Home Access Center Gradebook – Although many scores for student work can be found in Canvas, we want to remind families to use Home Access Center for the definitive source for student grades. Canvas is great for some scores and individual assignment feedback, but HAC should be used for final scores and Grading Period grades. To monitor student daily classwork grades, look at the Classes tab.

State Report Cards Released

The Ohio Department of Education released the Ohio School Report Cards for the 2022-2023 school year today. Superintendent David Stewart is pleased to announce that Hilliard Schools continues to make positive gains in our goal of ensuring that every student, without exception, is Ready for Tomorrow.

Mr. Stewart says, “We are proud to share that Hilliard City Schools has earned 4.5 out of 5 stars, affirming our commitment to academic excellence.  We are particularly delighted to have received 5 stars in Progress and Gap Closing. Progress measures the growth made by all our students based on their past performance, reflecting our dedication to continuous improvement. The Gap Closing component evaluates our efforts in reducing educational disparities among student subgroups, emphasizing our commitment to equity and inclusivity.”

Embrace, Empower, Inspire Awards are Back

The Embrace-Empower-Inspire Awards are back this year.  They are presented throughout the school year to staff members who exemplify the values of Hilliard City Schools and make exceptional contributions to our district. These staff members demonstrate the Hilliard Way by making a difference every day, investing time in others, and pursuing excellence. Click here to nominate a current staff member.

Be Well – Prevention, Awareness, and Recovery Event Next Week

District and Community leaders are joining together on September 20 at Darby High School to offer a free event for parents and guardians interested in learning about spotting the signs of substance use addiction.  The free program is open to adults only, and the first 300 guests will receive a free dinner.

The event will begin with dinner and a resource fair in the school’s cafeteria from 5 to 6 p.m. A simulated teenage bedroom will also be on display in the Performing Arts Center. Parents are invited to tour the interactive bedroom to learn to spot risky behavior.  A presentation to include panelists of local first responders, health and wellness experts, and school officials will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. Experts will discuss substance abuse (including vaping), mental health, recovery, and addiction prevention.

Portrait of a Learner Video Series

Developing the district’s Portrait of a Learner has been the first step in Hilliard City Schools’ strategic planning process. This will serve as our district’s North Star in the years to come.  In an effort to share the Portrait with our community, we have developed a video series.  You can click here to watch the first one, which is an overview of the entire Portrait.  Each week we will release a more in-depth video that discusses the competencies.  Click here to hear from a professor and parent who shares what being a Resilient Learner means to him.

iPad Setup Site

We recognize that students and families may be overwhelmed by our integration of technology into teaching and learning. With that in mind, we have created our iPad set up webpage. This page has many great resources on how to set up various apps on the iPad as well as some basic How To’s of common tasks in the classroom.
