Thurgood Marshall was the first African-American to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. As a young adult, he applied to his hometown law school at the University of Maryland, but was denied entrance because of being Black. He later sued the school and won. And before he became a judge, he was a successful attorney who, most famously, won the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education case, which ended school segregation.

Happy Birthday Rosa Parks!  Rosa Parks is credited for helping to spark the Civil Rights Movement when she refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man in Montgomery Alabama in 1955.  Another little known fact is that even though Rosa Parks is credited with being the first for this type of civil protest, a woman named Claudette Colvin was actually arrested 9 months prior for not giving up her seat to white passengers.
