John Coltrane was an American saxophonist, composer, and bandleader who is considered one of the most influential figures in jazz and 20th century music. Coltrane was initially drawn to bebop and hard bop, but became a guiding force behind free jazz. His innovations, including exploring modal jazz and using unique scales and harmonies, opened up new possibilities for improvisation. His “Trane changes” also transformed how musicians approached chord progressions.

Harriett Tubman was born a slave but later escaped to Philadelphia. She risked her life traveling at night helping hundreds of Southern slaves escape to the north and Canada through a network of safe people and safe houses called the Underground Railroad.  In 1978, Harriet Tubman was the first African American woman to appear on the US Postage Stamp.
