NJHS:  Attention any 8th grader interested in applying to the National Junior Honor Society. We will hold an informational meeting on Tuesday, December 6th in the media center beginning promptly at 7:40am. Please view the application here, due by January 6th.

Native American Heritage Month:  There are currently 574 different federally recognized Native American tribes (approximately 229 are located in Alaska, and the rest are located in 35 other states). In the Destiny Discover Collection titled Indigenous People there are many informative books in the Heritage Media Center to learn about Native Americans and their culture. Check out these nonfiction books: 100 Native Americans who have changed American history by Bonnie Juettner, Native Americans and the reservation in American history by Anita McCormick, and Native American Religions by Rob Staeger.

Girls flex basketball started off their season with a 22-20 win over Tree of Life Christian School.  It was great team effort. The leading scorer for the Panthers was Bella Nelson with 15 points and scoring contributors were also made by Madison & Kylie Morris and Marisa Brannan.  The Panthers return to action today at New Albany.

SKI AND BOARD CLUB:   Flyers with all of the information about Ski Club are in the Main Office.  If you have signed up for Ski Club, or are interested in Ski Club, please pick up an information packet in the Main Office.

There is an informational parent meeting at Memorial Middle School today, Monday 11/21 @ 7pm, there is also a zoom link.  The information packet contains this info.

In the meantime, students can pay their bus fees now via “My Payments Plus”.  The Bus Fee is $100 for 5 trips, as we will travel by coach with Cardinal Transportation.  Please pay that as soon as possible.  Seating is limited and spots are given by a “first come – first serve” basis.  Email Mr. Bower (brent_bower@hboe.org) for details.

Native American Heritage Month:  There are currently five Native American people who will serve in Congress, and it will be the first time a Native American, Native Alaskan, and Native Hawaiian will serve at the same time. The Department of the Interior is led by Deb Haaland, a member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe. The book, I Can Make This Promise by Christine Day is part of Heritage’s Indigenous People Collection in Destiny Discovery. When twelve-year-old Edie finds letters and photographs in her attic it changes everything she thought she knew about her Native American mother’s adoption, and Edie realizes she has a lot to learn about her family’s history and her own identity.

Native American Heritage Month:  As we continue to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Native Americans to the United States, another book will be featured that can be found in the Heritage Media Center. Rez Dog by Joseph Bruchac describes Malian, an eighth grade Penacook girl, who visits her grandparents, who live on a reservation, during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this verse novel, Bruchac takes a look at life in lockdown through the eyes of Malian, who copes with boredom, isolation, and the need to find her place by befriending a dog, whom she names Malsum (Wolf). Check out other books about and by Native Americans in the Indigenous People Collection in Destiny Discover.
