You are a very important resource! Families are strongly encouraged to become actively involved with the development, implementation, and evaluation of your child’s educational program. Parent opportunities are available through a series of classes focusing on the concerns and issues of families with preschoolers with disabilities. These will be offered throughout the year. Information regarding additional community sponsored parent/family workshops are also frequently forwarded to preschool families in our monthly newsletters.
Please feel free to talk to your child’s teacher as well as to support staff members at school or by requesting a telephone call or note of response. Visiting family members are always welcome, but are requested to sign in at the school office. By wearing a “visitor” badge, all school personnel will acknowledge that you are a welcomed visitor. Scheduling a visitation with the teacher will ensure that you will be able to actively participate in classroom activities or observe a specific program/activity.
Parent conferences are scheduled two times each year in November and February. At each of those times you will be given information regarding your child’s progress along with an opportunity to share your concerns or questions. Additional conferences may be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time. Home visits are made on Mondays. Teachers schedule these with families on a rotating basis.
At the beginning of the school year, each child will receive a communication notebook. This book is designed to ensure that all lines of communication are open between school personnel and families. Please feel free to correspond as frequently as you wish in this notebook.
