Elementary Lunch Notes

As part of the educational mission at Hilliard City Schools, we strive to provide a variety of nutritional options for students at every grade level, for both breakfast and lunch meal periods. Breakfast is an important part of the school day, providing energy to start the day, and preventing the distraction of an empty stomach. All schools in the district serve breakfast. At $1.25, breakfast is a bargain for any budget. In addition, students who are eligible for free or reduced price lunches can eat breakfast free of charge.

For lunch, elementary students may choose from three hot entrees, build your our salad bar, or yogurt and whole grain cracker kit. We offer a wide variety of fresh and canned fruits, and fresh and hot vegetables. Elementary buildings do not serve products containing tree nuts or peanuts.

Although we are offering the maximum recommended portion sizes, we realize that older children may want more food than is offered with the lunch. Students may purchase an additional entrée or side item if desired. Snacks are also available for purchase which can also make up for the extra calorie needs of growing children.

Milk is a very important nutritional component of the school lunch. By making flavored milk available we have a greater percentage of children actually drinking the milk that is available with their lunch. If your child has a milk allergy, please send a doctor’s note to your building indicating the allergy and we will provide a milk substitute.
